The Apple Watch Series 5 was launched in the fall of 2019 with a new always on display and internal compass. It features the same edge to edge LTPO OLED Retina display and ceramic back with heart rate sensor as previous generations. The watch is configurable to 44mm or 40mm cases.
The Display will always show the time with minimal complications while still always updating data. To prevent burn in, the screen will reduce its refresh rate to as low as 1Hz and dim the display according to ambient lighting.
There is still a cellular option, and internal storage has increased to 32GB for more onboard music, podcasts, and apps. Apple watchOS 6 comes installed and features a new built in App Store for installing apps locally.
The Series 5 can be purchased with aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and ceramic cases in a variety of finishes. The same straps from previous generations will work with the respectively sized watches. Prices start at $399 (MSRP), but deals are readily available in the Apple Watch Price Guide.
