Apple AirPods are designed to pair easily with a wearer's iPhone via Bluetooth. The second-generation 2019 AirPods can either be purchased with a wireless charging case, capable of being charged either via a Qi-compatible charging surface or Lightning cable, or standard charging case that charges by lightning cable alone. On October 28, 2019, Apple also announced a new AirPods Pro variation with Active Noise Cancellation and a sleeker design with a more customizable fit.
On a single charge of the AirPods, wearers can expect five hours of listening time and three hours of talk time. A quick, 15 minute charge in the charging case gives users three hours of listening time and two hours of talk time. A single charge of the wireless charging case gives users over 24 hours of listening time and 18 of talk time, giving a wearer a good reason to keep it on hand.
Apple's 2019 AirPods feature an H1 headphone chip, allowing wearers to use "Hey Siri" functionality, as well as detects when they are in wearers' ears. AirPods are also capable of detecting whether a user is using one or both AirPods, routing the audio and engaging the microphone accordingly. Bundled in the box are two AirPods, either a standard charging case or a wireless charging case, and a Lightning cable.
Prices start at $159 USD (retail) for AirPods 2, with AirPods Pro topping out at $249, but deals can often be found at top Apple Authorized Resellers.
Apple's updated AirPods are now arriving in people's hands, and they bring wireless charging -- if you pay extra for it -- as well as improved sound and hands-free "Hey, Siri."
