Product Overview

The 13-inch MacBook Pro was updated on May 4, 2020 with the new Magic Keyboard, double the storage options, and 10th-generation Intel chipsets.

New Magic Keyboard

Apple's Magic Keyboard is backlit and has 1mm of travel. The Touch Bar is still there, but this time there is a physical escape key. The inverted-T arrow keys are also back. You still have the giant trackpad below the keyboard that can be clicked anywhere.

There are two generations of Intel chipsets available depending on which MacBook Pro you choose.

For the baseline models, they can be configured with the 8th-generation i5 and i7 Intel processors. Those are the same chipsets that were used in the previous generation 13-inch MacBook Pro. These models have only two USB-C ports.

The higher-end models have the latest 10th-generation Intel i5 and i7 Intel chips. These come with the Thunderbolt 3 controller capable of displaying content on a Pro Display XDR. The latest Intel chips also have a new integrated Iris Plus graphics with up to 80% faster performance. There are four USB-C ports with this configuration.

The screen on the refreshed MacBook Pro has the same 13.3-inch LED-backlit screen as the last-gen model with IPS technology and a maximum resolution of 2560x1600 pixels. The MacBook Pro features a Retina Display with True Tone and a P3 color gamut. If you've used a Retina device before, there will be no surprises here.

The latest MacBooks have Touch ID built in, which means more security without the hassle of entering long and complex passwords over and over. This also lets you make purchases via Apple Pay on the web or authorize iTunes purchases as well.

Along with Touch ID is the T2 security chip. This dedicated chipset exists just to ensure all of the most important personal and system data is stored separately from the rest of the computer. The T2 is used for secure boot and even enables "Hey Siri" on your Mac.
